Hawking, part of the Yes We Can Healthcare Group, proudly participated as one of ten selected companies—and the only one in mental healthcare—in the innovative Microsoft AI Tech Accelerator Programme. This selection was based on Hawking's data-driven strategy and the technical advancements achieved over recent years. The programme offered a unique opportunity to accelerate and expand healthcare innovations, with a strong focus on generative AI.
During the programme, Hawking collaborated closely with Microsoft architects, gaining access to advanced data and language models, as well as Azure resources. With this support, Hawking successfully developed DiscoveryGPT into a functional application, enabling healthcare professionals at Yes We Can Clinics and other organisations using tools like Discovery to better meet their needs.
Kees Haverkamp, CTO of the Yes We Can Healthcare Group, commented:
“Participating in the Microsoft Accelerator Programme is a tremendous achievement by the Hawking team. Thanks to this collaboration, we have been able to develop DiscoveryGPT into a working prototype that supports healthcare professionals by streamlining processes, reducing administrative burdens, and improving data quality. This breakthrough not only has a direct impact on our fellows and their families but also benefits other healthcare organisations, such as the NHS in England. With Microsoft’s support, we’ve elevated our work to the next level.”
Hawking was also awarded the honourable title of "Most Inspiring Case" from the programme. Emile Verbunt, on behalf of Microsoft, said:
“It is inspiring to see how Hawking evolved throughout the programme. Their progress demonstrates how AI can have a tangible impact on the healthcare sector while making technology both accessible and effective.”
Amedee Bochardt, from the Microsoft AI Tech Accelerator, added:
“Hawking has shown how technological innovation can go hand in hand with societal relevance. It has been a pleasure to contribute to this project and see how Discovery is embraced not only internally but also in practice.”
With the experience and outcomes from the Accelerator Programme, Hawking is ready to further enhance its impact on the healthcare sector. The organisation remains committed to developing solutions that support healthcare professionals, alleviate administrative burdens, and pursue positive societal influence.
